M5 MBP 32GB 1TB 🏎️💨
Tu tu da da, Macs aren't stopping 😮💨 Genuinely excited to up-cycle my OG/ late 2019 M1 MacBook Pro (16GB + 1TB) with it's touch-bar, two USB-C ports and zero SD slot. Stickered and lightly dinged by a bouncing screwdriver, this warrior shall henceforth be used for making music 🎵 The performance of this M5 is making me quite happy. Lightroom has never worked so well.
I don't like paying Adobe every month just to occasionaly use Lightroom Classic. As a photographer, I feel a bit trapped. I desire more than the average editing tools. Adobe used to be THE answer, but there are plenty of powerful photo editors out there.
- Capture One
- Photomator
- Darktable
- RawTherapee
- Afinity Photo
- Photopea
Ideally 💡
Hardware:
- Ceph storage cluster = 3 machines (Dell Optiplex 7000 series) = 4C/8T, 16GB, 500GB SSD, 2TB NVME, 2 x 10G SPF+, 1 x 1Gbe
- High availability vm/k8s Proxmox cluster = 2 machines (NUC9VXQNX) = 8C/16T, 2TB NVME, 2 x 10G SFP+, 2 x 1Gbe (+ 1 machine to act as 3rd for quorum becuase I don't own a 3rd 9th Gen NUC with the VX
- Ubiquiti XG networking stuff. For video editing and live broadcasting reasons: I really need more UniFi XG switches. Blackmagic Design at NAB 25 + 26 really want me to up my 10G network game. I've been building & using 10G at home for over a decade— I already have everything I need to complete this project.
Software:
- Ceph + Proxmox + k8s + docker
- As an MVP: NextCloud for client-side data syncing.
- Later: I'll roll my own asynchronous data tools (easier said than done)
- And then: linuxserver/Darktable = X11 GUI hostable variant
- And then: more
Time to learn a new editing software and ditch Adobe subscriptions once and for all!
BRB, this won't take long at all.
